Technicals & Charts

When investing in any asset class whether they be paper assets like bonds and equities or tangible assets like property and precious metals, an investor should do their own 'due diligence' or extensive study and research and have a basic understanding of both the fundamental and technical analysis of the investment.

Technical analysis is a method of forecasting prices based on a study of the prices of commodities, equities, indices or currencies and the resulting charts. Chart analysis is the study of price charts in an effort to find patterns that in the past precede price advances or declines. The development of similar patterns in a market can signal a probable move in the same direction. The key factor in technical analysis is determining the trend or direction of the market and 'making the trend your friend' or simply to buy when a market is going up and sell when a market is going down.

"One picture is worth ten thousand words." - Frederick Barnard, 'Printers' Ink', 1927
(because of it's frequent use and wisdom it is mistakenly believed to be an old proverb.)
